Detwiler Farm (Columbiana)

Detwiler has been in the same family since 1838, and it's about as classic as it gets: you hop on a hay wagon, ride out to the field and pick your own pumpkin off the vine. It's at 4520 Renkenberger Rd., just off Route 46.

  • When: Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., through Sunday, Oct. 25. The farm says it won't be open on Halloween.
  • Price: $7 a person (2 and under free) covers the hayride to the patch, a 4-acre cornfield maze, a straw maze, the tractor tire playground and the petting zoo. Pumpkins are 45 cents a pound.
  • This weekend: WFMJ lists a Pumpkin SMASH on Oct. 24 and 25, a separate $7 that gets you three pumpkins to smash with hammers, mallets and bats.
  • Timing tip: Wagons leave about every 15 minutes, and the last one goes out at 4:45 p.m.

White House Fruit Farm (Canfield)

For a lot of Valley families, fall means a bag of White House donuts and a jug of cider. The farm at 9249 State Route 62 (Youngstown-Salem Road) has been farmed by the same family since 1815, and apples are its main crop. The last Fall Harvest Weekend is Oct. 24–25.

  • Market hours: Monday–Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.–5 p.m. You can stop in for pumpkins, apples, cider and donuts any day, not just on weekends.
  • Weekend activities: Horse-drawn wagon rides, Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.–4 p.m., $5 a rider. Farmville Fun for kids is $10 per child ages 2–15. Petting zoo $1; pony rides $5; live music on the lawn from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Extra on Sunday: The farm is hosting Pumpkins & Pilates with LUX Yoga Pilates on Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. Spots are limited and booked through the studio.
  • Heads up: No pets on any part of the farm (service animals only). Outdoor activities can change with the weather, so check the farm's social pages that morning.

Maze Craze (New Springfield)

If the corn maze is the whole point, this is the one. Maze Craze, at 14070 Woodworth Rd., cuts a new design every year (Popeye for 2026) across four mazes, including a 23-acre main maze with 18 hidden checkpoints. There are easier games for kids and a Clue-style mystery for older ones.

  • When: Weekends through Sunday, Nov. 1. Fridays 5–11 p.m., Saturdays noon–11 p.m., Sundays noon–9 p.m. Nov. 1 is the farm's annual Dog Day.
  • Price: $14 for ages 4 and up; 3 and under free. Active military get in free with ID (family members pay). Admission covers all four mazes, hayrides until dusk and the play areas.
  • Extras: Barrel train $1 a ride on weekends, kiddie zipline $5 for two rides, corn cannon $1 for two shots, gemstone mining $5–$25. Private fire pits are $40 for three hours.
  • Tip: WKBN reports maze tickets stop selling 90 minutes before closing. Bring a flashlight if you're going after dark.

Kuchta Farms (Newton Falls)

Kuchta started as a little pumpkin stand in 2011 and now has more than 25 attractions on State Route 82 (4785 OH-82): a big corn maze, a barnyard with animals, a pumpkin-themed barrel train, a giant corn crib, a wagon ride and a general store with apples, cider and kettle corn. It's the best pick if you can only go on a weeknight.

  • When: Through Saturday, Oct. 31. Wednesday and Thursday noon–7 p.m., Friday noon–8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • Price: Wednesday–Thursday $10 online or $13 at the gate. Friday–Sunday $13 online or $16 at the gate. Ages 2 and under and 80 and older are free. Seniors and military save $2 with ID.
  • Good to know: The wagon ride, pumpkin train, Donut Barn and grill only run Friday through Sunday. The general store is free to walk into.

Countryside Farm Market (Lowellville)

If you live in Poland, Struthers, Campbell or Lowellville, this one is right around the corner. The family market at 4684 Center Rd. (Route 224, about three miles east of Poland) holds PumpkinFest every weekend in October, with hayrides, a corn maze, pony rides and pumpkin painting, plus a Halloween store and plenty of mums, cornstalks and straw bales.

  • Hayrides: Saturdays and Sundays noon–5 p.m., $7, and that includes a pumpkin (as reported by Mahoning Matters and posted by the farm).
  • Market hours: Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The market closes for the season at the end of October.

More Ohio farms worth the drive

McMaster Family Farms (Columbiana)

A fourth-generation farm at 345 Old Fourteen Rd. that grows its own carving, pie and specialty pumpkins. Its Fall Fest has two weekends left: Fridays 3–8 p.m. (Oct. 23 and 30) and Saturdays noon–8 p.m. (Oct. 24 and 31). Admission is free and hayrides are $6. WKBN says there are carnival rides, games and a corn pit too, plus food trucks.

Hartford Orchards (Hartford)

Up in northern Trumbull County at 6953 State Route 305. Apple picking already ended for 2026 because of a light crop, but the Toy Story-themed corn maze, play area and pick-your-own pumpkin patch are open through the end of October. The maze and play area are $6 for ages 4 and up. The market (closed Mondays) will keep selling picked apples through the new year.

Pennsylvania farms for a bigger day out

Irons Mill Farmstead (New Wilmington, Pa.)

This is less a pumpkin patch and more a giant farm playground: 150 acres and 40-plus attractions, including jumping pillows, a hay castle, slides, a zip line, a corn maze and pig and duck races on weekends. It's at 252 Greenfield Rd. Day passes run $16–$27 depending on the day, and kids 2 and under and adults 80 and up are free. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. The ticket page says the season goes through the first weekend of November, so check the calendar at ironsmill.com for exact hours before you head out.

Coolspring Ranch (Mercer, Pa.)

Right off I-79 near I-80 at 537 Franklin Rd., in its 22nd season. There's a 12-acre corn maze, the Double Mega Slide, hayrides and a pumpkin patch, and you can meet Miss Tillie the Highland cow. Open through Sunday, Nov. 1: Fridays 4–10 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.–10 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Visit Mercer County lists general admission at $15 (2 and under free), and some attractions take extra tokens. You don't need a ticket just to shop or buy pumpkins.

Cheeseman Farm (Portersville, Pa.)

A simple, old-school pumpkin festival at 147 Kennedy Rd. Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.–5 p.m. through closing day, Saturday, Oct. 31. The hayride to the patch is $5 (2 and under ride free with an adult), and pumpkins are 50 cents a pound. Get to the barn by 4:45 p.m. to make the last ride.

Tips before you go

  • Go this weekend if you can. Oct. 24–25 is the last chance for Detwiler and White House's Fall Harvest Weekends, and next weekend will be crowded with Halloween stuff.
  • Wear boots. Pumpkin fields and corn mazes get muddy fast after rain.
  • Check social media that morning. Every farm here can close or cut activities for bad weather.
  • Bring a little cash. Some small add-ons are cash only. White House Fruit Farm's Budgie Barn ($3), for one.
  • Make it a full day. Pair a morning at the farm with a trunk-or-treat or a haunted hayride that night.
